Know your mount
2-Pin vs. 4-Pin - what's the difference?
Every RAD MAG mount snaps on with the same magnets and holds the same way. The only thing that changes is what travels through the pogo pins - pick the connector that matches your wiring.
4-Pin
Power + Data
Four pogo pins carry power and the remote-mute data signal. A magnet sits either side of the connector.
2-Pin
Power Only
Two pogo pins deliver power to the detector. A magnet sits either side of the connector. No data line.
Non-Powered
Bring your own power
No pins - a clean magnetic mount for buyers who run their own power lead straight to the detector.
Which one do I need?
Same snap-on magnets - pick the connector that matches your wiring.
2-Pin
Power only
4-Pin
Power + data
Are 2-Pin and 4-Pin mounts interchangeable?
No — they're completely non-interchangeable. They use different physical connectors and internal layouts. Mixing components or forcing a mismatched connection can permanently damage your radar detector.
Does my detector still fully function on 2-Pin?
Yes. All on-device features - mute, mark, top buttons, display and audio alerts - work perfectly normally on both versions. "No alert out" simply means the 2-Pin mount can't send signals to external dash accessories (like a remote mute button).
What about the Non-Powered mount?
The Non-Powered mount has no pins at all - it's a pure magnetic mount for buyers who already have their own power source running straight to the detector (for example a coiled cord into the lighter socket). Your detector snaps on and off exactly the same way; you just keep using your existing power lead.
Bottom line: Want to run an Escort Smart Cord, Uniden Remote Mute Kit or Valentine One ESP device and you're comfortable soldering wires? Get the 4-Pin. Otherwise the standard 2-Pin is right for most users. Need pinout details? See the full wiring guide - or message us before you buy.
